Benefits of Membership

Your membership money pays for group equipment, subsidising training courses for walk organisers and discounts for drivers, all of which are absolutely essential to the existence of the club. The best way to make the most of your membership is to get involved - come on lots of trips!

Here is a list of what you get for your money:

  • Affiliate membership to the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS), which is the National Governing Body for all mountain sports. If you are already a member of the MCofS, either as an individual or through another affiliated club then discounted membership is available (but please bring your membership card when you join).
  • Access to club trips, with transport, walk organisers and group equipment provided, as well as accommodation for weekend trips.
  • Use of club equipment outside official trips (£1 charge per item).
  • Access to training courses arranged both by EUHWC and MCofS, often heavily discounted.
  • Informal training from experienced members in skills such as navigation and winter skills.
  • A quarterly copy of Scottish Mountaineer magazine direct to your letterbox.
  • Snow faffSnow faffUse of other MCofS clubs' huts for very cheap prices, these are in some stunning remote places and usually have some facilities e.g. showers, toilets and electricity - you can use these on a club trip, with a group of other club members or as an individual.
  • Representation on the big issues affecting outdoor activities through the MCofS.
  • Some of your MCofS affiliation fee supports their work in maintaining access rights, protecting the hills through conservation and promoting mountain safety.
  • Personal accident insurance whilst on club trips.
  • Civil Liability Insurance whilst taking part in any mountaineering activities all year round.
  • A regular and varied social scene from drinks at the pub to ceilidhs and meals out.
  • Discounted drinks at Doctors at all times.
  • Loads of people to arrange your own walking trips with.
  • Banter and friends who may last a lifetime!
